PocketBible Development: Laridian

Scribe works closely with Laridian to develop books for their platform. Scribe has converted books for numerous publishers, including Thomas Nelson, into Laridian format. All titles are developed as well-formed documents, so they function well within Laridian and other e-book platforms.

Well-Formed Document vs. XML Workflow

Every project that Scribe undertakes goes through three stages:

SGML

SGML, or Standard Generalized Markup Language, is the parent of many markup languages. SGML was originally designed to enable machine-readable text to be used across large enterprises. It is rigorous enough to allow the tagging of complex documents, while flexible enough to allow for multitudes of use. Since its inception, Scribe has developed tools that are based in SGML. While others are overwhelmed by the complexity of SGML, Scribe fully understands its use and value.

Project Management

Most think of our Well-Formed Document Workflow as the key to Scribe's success in providing publishing services. While our workflow does help us become more efficient, we would be less successful without our hands-on approach to project management.

The same management that Scribe utilizes internally is available to all of our clients. We provide project management, project development, and production management services to ensure that your projects are successful.

Collaborative

The purpose of Scribe's services is to assist our clients in efficiently publishing their content. To that end, Scribe has developed a number of services to support efficient workflow, multipurpose publishing programs, and to augment our clients' expertise. These services enable publishers and others to streamline production and make better use of technology. This helps our clients to work more efficiently, increase revenues—thus, be successful in today's competitive market.

Scribe's collaborative services take three forms:

OCR

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is used to transfer printed material into electronic text. Through OCR, print can be converted into ASCII text, word processor documents, desktop publishing systems, database files, HTML and other mark-up systems. One issue that arises with OCR is that programs often produce inaccurate text that is unacceptable for publisher's needs.

Web Sites for Publishers

Make the most of your publications by using the Web to publish, distribute, and sell your works. Scribe offers complete Web development, including Web publishing, design, hosting, and implementation of your Web site. We can augment your product with e-commerce, subscription management, and content management systems. We can assist you with migration onto the Web, database organization, and multipurpose set-up.

Scribe's OCR, data conversion, and markup services can be employed so that you can publish your backlist on the Web.

Typesetting

Because we are here to serve our customers, Scribe provides our composition and typesetting services according to your needs. Whether we provide full-service (including design) or work with your designs and templates, Scribe's approach assures the highest level of typography, with easy XML and multipurpose output. Scribe delivers, on time, PDFs for your printer while simultaneously preparing for electronic publication.

Data Conversion

Scribe converts content from any format to any other (including print to electronic). Scribe does not just perform data conversion for single use. Scribe converts your publications into robust well-formed documents that will be valuable for years to come.

No matter what the latest markup language or output device, well-formed documents will easily port from one format to another. Our methodology makes sure that the conversion we perform results in consistent publications that can easily be reused for any purpose.
