TEI

The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), an independent membership consortium hosted by academic institutions, develops and maintains a standard for the representation of texts in digital form. The TEI Guidelines specify encoding methods for machine-readable texts and has become a standard for academic archives. Though TEI is widely used in university circles, it is not robust enough for print and electronic re-purposing beyond academia.

Scribe can develop TEI as well as help you devise a strategy to store in TEI and a more robust XML simultaneously.
