PDF

Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is a standard for sharing electronic books across multiple platforms, while retaining the original look of the book. PDF files have a number of options, and Scribe develops many types for use in a variety of ways.

  • PDF for exchange and print—are basic PDFs that are distilled for easy electronic exchange, or for computer-to-plate printing.
  • Smart PDF—contains bookmarks and links that allow the reader to jump to any page in the document. This is useful for electronic access, especially for documents with multiple levels, cross references, footnotes and endnotes, and indexes.
  • Adobe Digital Editions—function on multiple platforms. These files can be formatted as ePub, Flash, or xhtml.
  • Universal PDF—was developed to allow for a smoother editing process. In Universal PDFs, an image of each page is presented to the viewer. This allows for strong digital rights management, and the security of content. This is also an excellent method of presenting original manuscripts, and text can underlie the page images.

No matter what type of PDF you wish to develop, Scribe will help you to get the most out of your publications.
