Jennifer Boeree, Executive Editor. Jennifer Boeree came to Scribe in 2001 and has experience in each facet of Scribe: text conversion, design and typesetting, project management, and editorial work. Jennifer has an M.A. in American Literature and Rhetoric from the University of Maryland, where she also taught several levels of introductory writing courses as a lecturer. She currently directs editorial training at Scribe, oversees quality control, and is the lead editorial trainer for Well-Formed Document Workflow implementation.
Andy Brown, Director of Production. Andy Brown has directed all aspects of Scribe’s production, both traditional and electronic, since 2001. He has overseen the creation and technical development of several online subscription archives and has extensive experience in all types of publishing technology and production. A graduate of Mississippi State University and Florida College, prior to working at Scribe, he served as a software product manager for Managing Editor, Inc., a publishing software company, where he managed multiuser, client-server editorial systems that used both Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases and other content management applications.
Stacy Claxton, Electronic Book Developer. Stacy has worked at Scribe for more than five years, handling a complete range of responsibilities along the publishing chain from composition, copyediting, and proofreading to design, typesetting, and image manipulation to project management, client communication, and quality control. With a capacity for both production and editorial work, she usually supervises Scribe’s large-scale, multifaceted projects. Before coming to Scribe, Stacy worked as a math researcher at Bryn Mawr College, where she edited and synthesized harmonic analysis notes into a LaTeX document for eventual publication as an undergraduate text. Stacy graduated summa cum laude from Bryn Mawr College with two bachelor of arts degrees.
Mark Fretz, Director of Editorial Services. Dr. Mark Fretz, M.Div., Ph.D., has led Scribe’s editorial staff of copyeditors and proofreaders since 2002, after serving as publisher of Morehouse Publishing in Harrisburg, PA. Previously, he held the position of senior editor with Doubleday’s Religious Publishing Division, where he managed the Anchor Bible series. Mark is educated in ancient languages and religions. He has overseen the editing of numerous books and the development of Scribe’s editorial training program.
John Howkins, E-book Manager. John has been directing the development of electronic books at Scribe since 2001. He has overseen the production of time-tested e-books for multiple platforms that are of the highest quality, accuracy, and navigability. He is also an expert in XML schema, and is involved in the development and maintenance of Scribe Markup Language (ScML). John holds a B.S. from Temple University and a Certificate in Internet Technology. In his personal life, John Howkins is a musician, husband, and father of two children.
Rachel Paul McGrath, Electronic Book Developer. Rachel has been a Book Developer at Scribe for over five years and has been involved in nearly every aspect of our production and editorial services. She is a skilled typesetter and graphic designer, able to produce materials in a variety of media and styles, and has designed for both the publishing and music industries. In addition, she is also a project manager and editor, specializing in science and engineering publications. She currently performs quality control, project management, and editorial work. She graduated magna cum laude from Arcadia University with a B.A. in English and Business.
David Rech, Director of Publisher Services. David began Scribe after being the Director of External Services for the Center for Computer Analysis of Texts at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to possessing extensive knowledge in publishing technologies, David is educated in classical history and languages, and is fully versed in the use of computers for research within the humanities. David’s area of expertise is the development of text-based research tools, and the implementation of the Well-Formed Document Workflow within traditional publishing. Under David’s direction, thousands of multipurpose publications have been created for delivery in traditional print, CD-ROM, e-book, or Web-based products.
Brandon Smith, Typesetting Manager. Brandon has worked in multipurpose publishing since 2002. He is an expert in typography, book and journal production, and WFDW training. In addition to direct training and creating on-line tutorials, he is instrumental in the ongoing development of WFDW procedures. Brandon graduated from Bard College and is completing work on his third fiction publication.
Andrew Thomas, Project Manager. Andrew has been a Project Manager at Scribe for over eight years, managing the development and maintenance of several online SQL database resources. His responsibilities span several areas with an emphasis on client communication, data conversion and delivery in an XML environment, database maintenance, and dynamic Web page construction with CSS implementation. Prior to joining Scribe, Andrew was an Electronic Book Developer for OverDrive of Cleveland, Ohio, where his work focused on development of PDF and XML content for a wide variety of publishers. He holds a B.A. from Cleveland State University.
